A common misconception when looking for the perfect dress is the worry about purchasing too early. Take it from someone with
experience – it’s never too early. Even in the short amount of time that I have
been part of the Volles team, I hear it quite often. Brides come in and are
hesitant to buy a dress they have fallen in love with because they think they
are jumping the gun too quickly. They want to shop around or are simply worried
that if they buy their dress a year or more in advance that they could change
their mind down the road. You will hear this from most bridal consultants, but
as someone who purchased a dress over a year in advance of my wedding, it’s
worth it to make sure you have the dress of your dreams. This is one of the
most important parts of the wedding process, and the dress sets the tone for
many other details including bridesmaid dresses, Mother of the wedding gowns,
tuxes, and color pallets. Customers frequently ask me if it’s difficult to work
as a bridal consultant around so many beautiful gowns when I have already
bought my own, but like I tell every bride that I meet, it’s not a challenge because I
know that I found the dress that is perfect for me. I have never second guessed
my decision because on the day that I chose my dress, I knew when I had it on
that it was what I wanted to wear when walking towards my future husband.
What many brides have a problem with is letting themselves
fall in love with one dress. Although it’s exciting to be surrounded by gorgeous
designer gowns, it can also be an overwhelming experience. This is why it’s so
important to focus on how you imagine yourself to look walking down the aisle,
and not worrying about what other opinions could influence your decision about
your dress. Remember, YOU are the bride and it is your dress. If it is your
first time shopping and you step into a gown and completely fall in love, don’t
second guess yourself just because it is your first time out. You know how you
feel, and if you can see yourself walking towards your future spouse in that
dress, then it’s yours. You knew in your heart when your fiancé was “the one,”
and you will know it when you find your dress. You just have to learn to trust
your instincts and let yourself be in love with the dress. When you’ve found
the one, just be ecstatic that you can envision your dream wedding and all of
the other details can then fall into place.
